MY PAST DOESN'T DEFINE WHO I AM TODAY

"Were you turned off by my past?"

A person asked me this question after he shared something so personal about the things he did in his past. I thought to myself real quick, why would I be turne off by it?

I answered, "No. That's already your past. If you say you've changed and not do it again in your present life, then no. I don't need to know someone else's past for me to define them. Your past doesn't define who you are today."

Why did I answer it that way? Why not be squimish with that person? Why still bother talking to that person? This person did this and that, why still bother? Why?

The answer is simple, God accepted us for who we are in the past and still loved us with our worst self. God forgives and forget our sin in the past and have given us new life to be worthy of acceptance. He did not define us for who we are in the past, but He defined us for who we are TODAY.

God said, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past." (Isaiah 43:18). It simply means to let go of your past and hold on to the new life you have in the present and future. Of course, a life with Jesus who renewed and saved you from your past.

I've done a lot of mistakes and sins in the past even though I'm walking in faith (or I thought I am). I knew they are wrong but still continued to the wrongful acts, and so God broke me into million pieces for Him to make me to really realize what I have is not pleasing in His sight. In the process of it all, I thought to myself that I may no longer be accepted by anyone because of the wrong decisions I made in the past, but God reminded me (through reading His Word and my family in Christ) that my past doesn't define who I am today.

"Anyone who is joined to Christ is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come." (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Quoting from an article I've read, "When the devil keeps on asking you to look at your past, there must be something good in your future that he does not want you to see."

We may have a very dark past, have done things that shouldn't be done, but once we have decided to change for what God wants us to be and be with Christ, you are new with Christ.

What you did in the past may be a turn off to som people, but once you met a person who is in Christ, that person will look beyond and will not judge you for it. As the today is important than the past.

If Jesus can look beyond our past and focus with what's new in us, we can also do the same as Christ did. Be a Christ-like Christian.

Whatever your past is, it doesn't define who you are today. Jesus does.

Let His will be done and not ours.

All for Christ.
